    Asrock Computer Outputs Not Sound


    For some reason there is no audio coming from my system when I go in to the bios it should make a sound but it does not so it's nothing to do with Windows and yes I installed the correct drivers. Also with Windows when I play a mp3 file it doesen't output the sound.

    Should mention that this only happends when I plug in something to the audio jacks such as a ear phone or speakers but when I plug in a usb headset I get audio but from nothing else and I have not tried HDMI as I don't have a HDMI cable but probably the same issue there as will.

    So could it be the sound chip? I don't know how since the usb audio is working fine but with my luck it might be lol..

    Here's some basic PC specs:

    Motherboard: Asrock FM8AAX Extreme 4+ CPU: AMD A8-6600K APU with Radeon HD Graphics RAM: 4GB PSU: CaseCom 500W Graphics: Using Onboard THis should be enough specs

    The board is only around half a month to 1 month old so I don't really fell like taking it back for warranty and have no computer for 2 days or who knows when

    Things I have tried: A bios update to the latest Connect a usb headset: Some results but doesn't fix the jack side of it Troubleshooting in windows, The OS just says there's nothing wrong basically Tried setting the speakers as the default audio

    So yeah i'm now officially stump on what to do, Everything was working fine A 3 days ago and when I played a song yesterday that's when i found out.

    What else could I try? and what could be the issue?

    The board is only half a month old and everything is connected on the motherboard fine

    I tried a sound card and that seems to work and fixes the issue
    So the realtek audio chip is blown and it does get hot like an oven when you touch it :/

    However,it still bothers me that the on board does not work and there is a useless chip on the board. I don't want to take the system back for warranty and have no desktop for several days or weeks.

    Should I keep using the sound card and forget about the on board?
    Replace the motherboard when I have the money?
    Replace the chip when I have money?

    Any advice would be great!

    You should replace the motherboard when you want to upgrade to something better. It is also too hard to replace the sound chip. If you have a sound card, you should almost always forget the onboard and go with the sound card no matter if the onboard is working or not. I don't think you should get it fixed because this problem has already been fixed and sound cards are always better than onboard except in rare occasions. Though the quality difference cannot be detected by the untrained ears, your problem forces you to use the sound card anyway.

    Good point a 2005 sound card that I managed to find laying around is better then the 2013 on board.

    The only problem is there is audio jacks at the back that have no purpose for the computer and the front audio jacks are also useless as will not sure how to get them working on another sound card?
    If not guess I can pretend they don't exist and move on

    the sound card is a older card X17 not sure on the exact model but it does work as a sound card.
    as for the chip the bios is saying RelTek Audio Codec Chip.

    RealTek ALC892 Audio codec sounds like a cheap chip blew for no reason lol and looks too small to produce audio

Hello, I use my pc to watch movies. It is connected to my tv via hdmi and sound system via SPDIF optical cable. Everything works fine, but sometimes I want listen to music or other apps through my headphones, while someone else listens through sound system. How can I do that?...
