Headset speakers play whatever sound the microphone picks up

I got a new headset yesterday, and it works great for the most part. However, when NVIDIA ShadowPlay is running, when I'm in a Skype call, or when I'm connected to a TeamSpeak 3 server, whatever my microphone picks up (i.e. my voice) is played through the headset's speakers.

It's really annoying to deal with and makes it harder to speak smoothly. I've made sure that "listen to this device" is unchecked in the Recording Devices section of the Sound menu.

Any help? The headset is a Logitech H540, but it uses default Windows drivers for USB headsets.

This site only demonstrates how to set the default devices for recording/playback and does not help solve the problem.
