Windows 7 Ultimate - 64Bit
RealTek Quiet Sound

Hello All,

I'm running XP32 bit and W7 64Bit in dual boot. On W7 the audio at max volume is less than what Xp volume is at 50%. Using latest 2.35 drivers and all settings in the control panel seem to be correct.

Any ideas?

I'm sorry that you are having this issue, but pleased too, as I've had exactly the same problem for the last few months but can find no solution either...I wish I knew the answer to this....

Here's hoping.....

yep, same issue here. Even went and installed my old audigy 2 zs and that did the same thing. Its frustrating as with XP everything was nice and loud but now i have to turn it up to double the volume to get where i was before.

Windows 7

I had this problem happen to me tonight.
The sound suddenly went really quiet and I could barely hear sounds ,using headphones, above the TV in the same room. It just happened for no apparent reason.
After a looooot of messing around I decided to remove the realtek software and drivers and rebooted. I then allowed Win 7 to automatically detect the hardware and install its own driver. Guess what, it fixed the problem, my sound is back to normal again.
My advice, try this method, if it worked for me it should work for you.

Oh, I am using onboard realtek ALC1200 on windows 7 home premium 64 bit

Hello olivermbs,

I found this, it helped someone with a similar problem.
"set to DVD quality" below the link:
Low sound volume

I hope this will make a change for you.

Best regards,

Thank you for your replies guys. Unfortunatly the DVD quality trick didn't do it, even with latest 2.37 drivers sound seems far too quiet. Good for my ears, yeah probably I'll be doing a fresh install soon of W7 Ultimate and see if that helps.

Did you check the settings in the Realtech Audio Manager

Yep I checked those, here are my settings:

I have found 7.1 to be louder than stereo. This may be because I have a 5.1 surround sound system and headphones. 99% of the time I do not use the speakers though.

Windows 7 Pro

Good Evening.

My audio seemed quieter than normal when i upgraded to Win 7 from Vista, and my music even sometimes seemed to change phase, as if someone was moving my speakers towards then away from me, and from left to right. It was strange, but I found that by disabling all enhancments on the sound card options made it louder and back to normal. I had no boxes ticked, but my clicked 'Disable All...'anyway, it cured my problem.

Here are some steps:
1) Right click speaker icon in bottom left (or Control Panel, Hardware & Sound, Sound)
2) Select 'Playback Devices
3) Right click on the speaker output you are using, usually 'Speakers'
4) Select 'Properties'
5) Click 'Enhancements'
6) Tick 'Disable All Enhancements'
7) Click 'OK'
8) Restart Media Player and any other audio programs open, a system restart should not be require, but should done if sound is still not correct.

Hope this helps you and anyone else who is having issues

Sound is really quiet
I have tried setting volume to max on all devices and using loudness equalization. The audio is still pretty quiet, and youtube videos are even quieter. I could of sworn it was louder at one point but I can't find anything to adjust. A flat DB modifier would be great.

Realtek® ALC887 8-Channel High Definition Audio Very Quiet
Hey. I have the Logitech LS21 speakers. I know they are cheap speakers. When I first set them up, I was actually very impressed with the volume and quality of the sound and bass. It was enough to fill my modest sized room with loud clear sound and rich base when listening to music. I had them...

Sound Goes Loud and Quiet Continuously!
Hi, This started happening a few weeks ago. I actually thought it was my old speakers that were faulty, so I replaced them with decent speakers, and as most of my work is tutorial videos (with speaking), I didn't notice it happening on my new speakers too, but then I played music and it was...
