Computer not hearing again message (voice recognition)

I have a Behringer XM8500 mic, a xlr cable, and the blue icicle. Every time I try to use voice recognition, I get the message that the computer isn't hearing anything. Mic does no have an on/off switch. Checked; systems the blue icicle is working properly.

I need to use voice recognition because of a problem with my neck and upper back. I am lost. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. I wonder if Realtec audio (Windows 7 Premium Home) is interfering? When I look at speakers settings, I am not sure if I am even making the right selection. Same with mic; used front.

I have a recording studio.

I see the Behringer XM8500 is a standard P.A. type microphone. The Blue Icicle, from what I see is a device to convert XLR to USB. This means whatever software/drivers the Blue Icicle has is responsible for providing the sound to whatever program, such as your voice recognition.

The PC sound card, such as RealTek is not used in this operation. The RealTek will not conflict with USB as the USB is digital. The Blue Icicle should be set as the default recording device in the Sound Panel/Recording Section.

The Sound Panel is located in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound.

From the Blue Mic site:

Windows 7 Setup Procedure
  • Under START MENU open Control Panel, then select Hardware/Sound.
  • On Hardware/Sound page click Sound, then choose Recording tab.
  • Insure that the ICICLE Is selected as the Default input device.
  • Set your volume in the Levels menu.

The icicle doesn't show under recording: This is what shows:
Microphone 2 USB multi channel(ready)
Front mic - Realtec....................etc. (default device)
Microphone- Realtec..............., etc. (not plugged in)
Line in (not plugged in)
Stereo Mix - Realtec.....................etc., (ready

Have you tried right clicking in the white space in that recording tab?

That may allow you to check disconnected or disabled devices.

The "Microphone 2 USB" is probably the Icicle USB interface. That suggests the Icicle may not have installed correctly, since the Blue support sequence I listed, says Icicle device.

Thank you re: blue icicle

I had selected the microphone 2USB before but it didn't work. I selected it again and this time I noticed the word "configure" at the bottom left. I click on both and it went to speech recognition and worked!. Many thanks.

Not sure what you mean by the blue icicle support sequence I listed, says Icicle device but guess that doesn't matter as long as it works.

I start mild traction (on my spine) next week. Hopefully it will help. Not sure if I hate being 80 or being 80 with severe osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Found out a week ago that I now have a 2nd compression fracture in thoracic spine. Darn and Darn. Using voice recognition will be a blessing.

What was that? asks the voice recognition mic bar.
