    Microphone too quiet

    Hello!

I've looked at all the other "mic too quiet" threads in the archives but I can't find anything useful.

I've always had this problem with my PC, almost every headset/microphone I buy is far too quiet, now I've found my perfect headset but still, the microphone is far too quiet.

I would really appreciate some help with troubleshooting, any assistance is appreicated.

    More information:
I have tried increasing the volume via Mic Boost but I don't have the Mic Boost option in my properties.
There are no more drivers available to my specific headset, I've tried a few headsets so the problem definitely lies with my computer in some way.

    Thanks for your time.

    What is the Hertfordshire OS?

What is the motherboard manufacturer and model number? For example Gigabyte Z77 Professional, Intel DP25DP, etc.

Do you know what sound you have? For example Realtek. If the sound listed in the Device Manager is "High Definition Audio Driver (Codec) that says you do not have the correct sound driver for your sound hardware and in this case the first thing to do is install the correct sound driver.

    Thanks for the reply!

Hertfordshire is my county, I'm not sure why it's in the OS slot, but I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium (6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601)

I'm looking at System Information and it's not actually telling me my motherboard make or model, do you know where else I could find it? https://i.gyazo.com/e0333b5b125ab3ba...7cf593c92d.png

I believe I'm running VIA High Definition Audio, but that seems to only manage the speaker slot which is unoccupied. Otherwise it's AMD High Definition Audio Device.

My headset runs purely from USB, there is no pink microphone cable.

A USB headset is only digital and does not use the PC's sound card. There should be a microphone icon in the Recording section of the Sound panel for the USB mic (and possibly a volume (level) control for it.

VIA is the PC's sound system. The AMD is for HDMI audio only.

    Thanks for the information!

There is indeed a volume slider under "levels", but it is already at 100%. There is no mic boost option either.

Do you know of any third party programs I can use to boost my microphone levels?

Sorry for wasting your time, but in the "custom" tab there was a setting called "AGC", I turned it on, recorded some audio with Audacity and I got gradually louder and louder until I was actually pretty loud.

    Thanks for your help!
