Internet Sound No Longer Works On Some Sites

I am new so forgive me if this post is not in the correct area. I have the latest Internet Explorer and have recently installed Avast (may or may not be relevant), I tried to listen to radio HEART on-line last night and it didn't work, it has done so before, there was no Internet sound slider in the Audio Mixer icons. I then tried BBC Radio 1 and that worked fine, sound slider present as it should be.
Has anyone else experienced this or have an idea what to do?

Note: I just went back to the HEART page and the sound was coming through, the Internet slider had appeared. I halted playback and re-started it, there was a long downloading indication but still no sound after 10minutes. The slider is still present.
Something is delaying things for this station for many minutes or longer.
    Not solved yet.

there doesn't look like a way to 'disable' Avast, the only way to control it is to 'disconnect'. I am reluctant to uninstall at this stage. Tonight I have found random results at firing up HEART or RADIO 1, sometimes they run sometimes they don't.
