Sound stops working randomly after a while

Hi
I've bought a set of new speakers for listening to music on my PC. However they stop playing randomly after a while. If I then go to the Device-manager and rightclick on the speakers (which is set as the default Device for sound) and do the test it works again for a while, whereupon the pattern repeats again.
First I used The built-in Realtek HD audio on my ASUS MB, and then I installed a Creative SB Audigy 2CZ sound card to see if it had anything to do with the Realtek-setup, but the patterne is the same.
Before I bought the speakers I uset my Headphones and never experienced these kind of problems.
Any help to get on with this would be appreciated.

First, if you installed a separate sound card, you must disable the on-board (RealTek) in the BIOS or they can conflict, and could even possibly cause the problem you are having.

Second, your "sound card", as listed in your specs is NOT the NVIDIA High Definition Audio, that is ONLY for HDMI audio.
Your sound card would be the SoundBlaster Audigy, if its still installed.

Forgot to write that I disabled Realtek in BIOS, sorry.
Problem was also present when I was running Realtek with no Audigy drivers installed.
I just tested again with headphones connected in stead of speakers and problem was not present - reoccurs when speakers are connected.

As the same problem is happening with both RealTek and the SoundBlaster, that says the sound devices are working and its something else in the PC that is causing the problem.

Do you have Skype or some gaming program (e.g. Steam) installed? Could it be they are causing the playback device problem?

No, I don't have either of those programs installed.
Just found out that when I'm palying music in Winamp I can "wake up" the spekers by adjusting the volume or by clicking the sound on/off in the same program.

Keyboard randomly stops working.
Hi thelastbonbona, It may not be an issue with the keyboard at all. You may try using a good-known keyboard with the system, if available; will help you to isolate the keyboard as the possible root cause. Alternatively, you may use this keyboard with another system to see if the issue...
