Sound comes out of my speakers not my headphones.

I'm renting from someone living in his house with 2 other people next room over. Audio plays out of my speakers whether my head phone is plugged in or not so I know its not the head phone age. I use the front jack for the headphone. The computer doesn't list my headphone either in the available unites when plugged in. I use realtek audio device. I've been all over the manager all over screen shots of advice and de installed than re installed real tek.. Same issue. Audio from the computer, not the headphone plugged in or not and not listed on the available devices or anything.

Any ideas other than driver updates or broken jack flack would be wonderful..

Have you tried to plug the headphones into the back Audio Port?

Just to check your plugging them into the green port.

Does the headphone jack work? and just that it does not mute the speakers? or is the actual problem there is no audio from the headphone jack?

If its just that the headphone jack does not work, I would suspect either a problem with the headphone jack or the connection to the motherboard from the front panel.

With RealTek, it may not list the headphone when plugged in. I have RealTek and when I plug in a headset it works but the Sound Panel/Playback only shows the "Speakers" (RealTek).

Im wondering if the front IO has came loose, plugging into the back would rule out this problem?

WHS, my RealTek only shows the "Speakers" when I plug in headset, on both of my desktops (one is an ASUS motherboard with RealTek and the other is an ASRock with RealTek). I'm using the "HD Audio" connector for the front panel jacks on both.

Since I don't have a door on the computer room and don't want to interfere with other activities I just plug an audio extension cable into the light green jack on the back of the computers and then plug in a headset to the extension. Headsets without the microphone are not much different from speakers, just that speakers usually have their own amplifier while headsets don't need additional amplification. It's a permanent solution until the cable is removed from the computer, no inadvertent noise escaping.
