Are you using HDMI? If that is the case, make sure you have the correct NVIDA drivers. Also, check the Default audio playback device. If there is an HDMI cable connected, Windows should be automatically setting the HDMI as the default audio playback device, but if not you will have to manually set it.

HI,fireberd,Thats one that had going around in circles is i forgot that this PC has HDMI to monitor whereas the other
DELL E521 does not have HDMI just a standard audio hook up,but that does not explain to me why when in WINXP i have
sound to monitor&TV,but when go into WIN 7 there is no sound and the TV has different sources to get picture from with
    sound.
You mentioned setting sound up manually i have speakers plugged into the back of PC to a lime green plug am i missing something here about setting up audio manually please explain, thanks

Win XP does automatically switch the default sound playback device when an HDMI cable is connected. However, Windows 7 (and Windows 8) will automatically switch the default audio playback device to HDMI when an HDMI cable is detected. In Win 7, if you want PC speaker sound you have to manually change the default playback device.

I was looking at a new Samsung monitor, in Costco recently, but it was HDMI and it would meant manually changing my default audio device every time I rebooted. For that reason, I didn't buy the HDMI monitor.
