Windows 7: No headphones icon

Sorry to hear about your problem, i will tell you how i solved mine.

I bought a USB headset.

Apparently if your pc is a little older, its has a different front panel configuration than the newest Pc`s, and the sound drivers for windows 7 don`t take this into consideration.

ive installed windows seven recently
my speakers are not working due to hard ware problems but my head phones used to work properly
but recently the headphones icon is gone and head phones are not working ive checked the sound settings in the playback devices headphones is not there only speakers icon is there

help me resolve the problem...
