I unchecked the software and rebooted, and it worked for about 2 minutes, before the crackling resumed

You could try to install, but if it doesn't (probably won't) - I'll work on it to make it so. I am at another machine right now so it will not be too long....but a little.

I told you the wrong driver before. It was for x64 but I couldn't tell from that page. And I had ZA set to block Microsoft services. I figured that out and got the right driver, then modified.

    Anyhow...

Download from this link and use Winrar or similar to extract to C:\AudioDriver

In device manager, right click on the audio device. Update driver software. Browse my computer for driver software. Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. Click the Have disk box. Click the Browse box. Then navigate to C:\AudioDriver and click (or double click) on HDA861A.inf

Hit ok and let it finish installing.

It should definitely install, but I don't know if it is actually going to fix the problem. So, good luck. Let us know how it goes.

I'm not sure, but probably not. I've reverted to the latest driver, because it gives me the best audio, and i cant live without dvds or music lol

ahhh k nevermind ill tell you how i did it

i downloaded driverrobot ran a scan

then after the scan dont register or whatever it comes up with just cancel it

then click exporter and it saves a file in documents ot wherever you want

then just click on that file takes you to a web page then click get drivers and there should be the driver one there for you

it went ok for me and no problems with audio but is a tad quiet (but was like that anyway before the crackle, probly just my laptop :) )

    hope it works for ya
