Surround Sound Problems Windows 7 64bit

Hi this is my first post so if I have'nt done something correct sorry in advance.

But my problem is that I cannot get my surround sound to work on windows 7, it worked fine when i had XP. It has the option but just will not play it.

I have a Abit AB9 pro motherboard, Quad Core 6600, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 7950 GX2 graphics card, but no seperate sound card.

My sound is optical out to my amplifier (wich was working fine with XP) I have tried everything possible but to no avail I've downloaded the latest Realtek drivers, tried a friends sound card but nothing.

Can somebody please please help me as im nearly pulling my hair out

    Thanks

    ftp://ftp-usa.abit.com.tw/pub/downlo..._raid_ahci.zip

Use that. Extract it to a folder.

Right click on the audio device in device manager. Update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Now find the .inf in the extracted folder and double click on it. Hit ok and let it install.

I think maybe its something to do with windows 7 itself as a lot of people are experiencing similar problems like the bass plays fine in the sound test but thats all. I hope a fix to this problem comes out soon as i've tried everything possible now and it really bugging me! but please let me know if you hear of something that'll help solve my problem

    thanx
