Realtek HD Audio - No Sound through speakers \ headphones

Hi,

This is driving me mad now also as soon as I google it there seems to be hundreds of similar problems..

New custom PC and cant get any sound from the rear speaker jack of front headphone jack. Sound is playing as the volume leve indicator is moving up and down and is green yet no sound outputted.

Tested speakers and headphones on another machine.
Re installed the hd audio driver.
Disabled and enabled driver.
Disabled the nvida hdmi sounds drivers.
Made sure the realtek driver is default.
Checked bios has onboard sound turned on.

Now i dont seem to be getting anywhere very annoying. Please help :)

I just went through this with another user and a Gigabyte motherboard. Never really resolved it as the user didn't want to do a complete reinstall. Everything else had been done and the user still had the problem.

However, lets try on yours.

First thing, go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the RealTek sound and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound.

If that does not fix it, uninstall the RealTek in the device manager but ALSO Uninstall the drivers. Then restart and when Windows starts, it will install the sound but it should be with the generic Windows "High Definition Audio Driver". See if the sound works with this configuration. If it does, it sounds like the RealTek driver you have may be corrupt. Download the R2.75 High Definition Codecs driver direct from RealTek and see how that works. www.realtek.com

Thanks very much i will try this and let you know. Seems to be lots of problems with this realtek hd but each issue ive read online seems slightly different. Dosnt sound like a very good product.

I have RealTek on my two custom built desktops which dual boot Win 7 64 bit and Win 8.1 64 bit and on a Lenovo Laptop with Win 7 64 bit. Works fine on all three.

Very strange, it even detects when the headphones or speakers are unplugged I haven't re-installed the R2.75 High Definition Codecs driver should I do that or is there another generic driver I could try.

Not sure if it helps but the pv has rear and front casing audio jacks.

The rear motherboard I/O panel jacks and headphone and mic jacks on the case front panel is standard.

Two things I missed to check first. (1) The "Speakers" need to be set as the Default Audio Playback device. If it is not set, but digital, for example, is set as the default playback device it could cause what you are seeing (not hearing). (2) What is listed in the Device Manager, Sound section? You should ONLY have the RealTek and possibly NVIDIA Sound (for HDMI) listed.

Assuming the Speakers are set as the default playback device, it really sounds like a Windows OS problem rather than the RealTek. If uninstalling and using the generic Windows High Defintion Audio drivers (Codec) does the same thing, that absolves RealTek as the problem. A low chance its a hardware problem with the RealTek hardware on the motherboard.

One other thing to try, just in case the front panel is causing the problem. Power off the PC first. Open the case and unplug the Audio Connection to the motherboard front panel. It will probably be labeled HD Audio (but could be labeled AC97 if you are using the older connection). Power up and see if that affects anything.

If not, you are down to two options, (1) a complete reinstall (2) A hardware problem.

You could try a separate sound card, to see what happens. There are some relatively inexpensive sound cards (or USB connected sound cards) that won't break the bank for testing. If you want to try that, disable the on-board sound in the BIOS when you do so there are no conflicts.

In device manager i currently have

High definition audio device
nvidia High definition audio
nvidia virtual audio device

I will try removing the front panel connection now.

If you google search the problem there seems to be loads of issues you must be very lucky that your 3 work :)

There are lots of issues with anything if you do a Google search. The RealTek audio is the prevalent hardware module used by manufacturers so there can be more posts about them.

I have a recording studio and I see the same thing about some of the more popular recording programs or hardware.

The NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device has been a problem for a few (not all but some). Try disabling that, then restart the PC and see if makes any difference.

I had problems with this myself as well. I had upgraded my Power Supply on my computer with one I got from a neighbor. At the time I didn't realize it was from a computer that kicked the bucket. It worked fine for a little while, then suddenly I always heard static when using the sound. It was really annoying static that I just couldn't stop hearing. Eventually I just got myself a new sound card and that has worked out just fine.

The Realtek HD audio was through the built in sound card on the computer. I think when I upgraded the computer with the Power Supply, it blew out my sound card. I am just lucky it didn't crash my computer.
