Two Microphones Suddenly Cutting Out

These mics are part of my karaoke set up, and have worked flawlessly for a year or more. Now every few seconds they cut out and then back in, v annoying in mid song!

Connected as follows, xlr mic to USB adapter , usb to pc, realtek hd audio sound card to line out to amp and speakers.

I have installed the latest realtek drivers, realtek and both mics are obviously enabled in control panel, I've checked and untangled all cables/hardware , swapped USB ports, and searched here and elsewhere for an answer, but can't pinpoint the culprit.

Any suggestions to resolve please?

Sounds like a possible USB connection problem. If the sound works OK otherwise, it is a problem either with the XLR to USB adapter or the USB port. When you use USB, instead of an Analog Computer mic, you do not use the PC's sound card directly for recording.

Try uninstalling the XLR adapter and reinstalling. With the device connected, go to the Device Manager and uninstall the device in the Device Manager. Then disconnect the XLR Adapter and restart the PC. After Windows starts, connect the XLR Adapter and Windows should find "new hardware" and reinstall it.

If there is still a problem, may be the XLR adapter or USB cable has developed a problem.

I have a recording studio and have seen problems posted on recording forums of problems with some adapters. I do not use them in my studio.

Update - didn't work so I think my mics must have a bad connection, I'll investigate.
