Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Driver Issues

I read a few threads here a bit earlier when I found that I couldn't record What U Hear on my system. Though the other threads were about X-FI cards, the idea of using a different driver sounded right, so I have tried several times with different drivers, but they don't take. In the Device Manager I found that the original WDM driver installed by the OS remains. First time, using the latest W7 driver from Creative, I got an error dialog saying that the installation failed. I then tried to force the installation with Have Disk, but a window appeared saying that it couldn't find an Audigy device installed. I tried the Daniel_K 3.5 support package, which produced no error dialogs, but going to the Device Manager showed that it failed also.

I didn't have this problem in the betas or RC, so why now? How do I install a driver that is fully functional?
