Hi,
I recently upgraded from XP to windows 7. I encountered a problem, but before that, here is my build:
Motherboard: Maximus II Formula (Republic of Gamers)
Intel Core2 Quad 3.00 gHz
4.00gb Corsair Dominator RAM
ATI Radeon 4870 X2
Not sure what my sound card is, I faintly remember it being a dedicated sound card. I just looked inside my box of installation discs and found a CD from CREATIVE Xtreme fidelity insallation CD.
I've reformatted my computer 3 times so far
First time, my windows updates crashed my screen when it was doing a
driver update on my 4870 x2. I decided to reformat just in case anything went wrong.
Second time, I cancelled the automatic windows updates, and decided to install all my necessary programs first. I installed windows live messenger, ATI Radeon CATALYST, SUN Java, and the Creative Xtreme fidelity disc from my box. It errored once, and said installation failed, but once i clicked OK it started installing again. (no clue if i installed succesfully).
However, I cannot get sound. It says I have no audio devices plugged in. I got too tired and went to sleep.
I got up in the morning today, and my computer would not boot. So I reformatted the computer once again.
Third reformat, I went on forums and checked for any mistakes I've made. A post mentioned that I need an audio
driver, so I went to Republic of gamers site, and downloaded windows 7 64 bit audio
drivers at
www.rog.asus.com
I downloaded audio
driver but it says
Installation failed! you do not have the proper hardware for the driver. (or something along the lines of that)

I really don't know much about computers. I'll be really grateful if someone would give me a step by step instruction to reformat a computer. I was basically winging this reformat.
Thanks in advance.
