    ATI HDMI output is unplugged

Yes I can and I have done. I looked at all my updates, but that one was not with it.

Perhaps they changed the number, as all my updates came in one go on the 28 of maI 2015 after this disaster of an reinstall with DELL DATASAFE.

But I cannot look for new updates. Windows update won't let me for some reason.

I will now go and check what else I cannot open.

Yeah well there were lists of passwords that different manufacturersuse and some were actually pretty non-guessable and some very case sensitivebut what surprised me the most was that a company such as Dell that has thesetop end machines had a password that was so simple.

The second one sounds a tad better albeit rather bitty.
In Youtube there loads of BIOS password removal vids but which one is best is debatable.
When I was looking for stuff that would help her I found this on wikihow, now I'm not sure if it is legit but I was thinking about if method 2 would be worth a go..

3 Ways to Break a BIOS Password - wikiHow
I cannot use the second possibility bacause I never see "System disabled with a number ".
I can try 3000 diferent passwords ( and have done by now I think ) and never see this.

Hum this is such a problematical one Thelma the BIOS password seems to me to be one that can only be fixed by fitting a new BIOS chip in that machine - not a viable option because of the cost even if possible.

The updates I am at a loss as to why you cannot see the latest ones - I don't know if I mentioned it before maybe a clean up of the updates l"leftovers" might improve things.

Start > Computer > C: drive > Properties > Disk clean - let that run and it will give you a second option - Clean up system files > click that > it will then run a small window and then go to the screen in pic 4 > click OK and the small window will ask if you want to do it > click Delete files and it will then go ahead and get rid of update scraps plus other clutter. I have done a series of pics I hope might help if not post back if you don't want to do this then hold off.

Well, there you really did a lot of work for me again, thanks so much !:)

I will have to study all this and do it for sure.

Now, I will be on the road for a while, going to my native Holland for the first time since 6 years. Then I took my mum to France to live her last 10 months under my roof. ( only child)

I will not be in reach of wifi for about a week I think, so if you don't hear anything you know why.

I cannot use any trouble shooting, but I can still restore, so I did that just before now.

Windows defender does not work, but I can get on line and see my E-mail.

Again, thank you so much for all your help and patience with me,

    Thelma

Thanks for your message, as you can read in my answer to John, I am on the road for a while and probably without wifi, so I try your suggestion for sure, but will not be able to communicate.

    Cheers,

    Hello,

I am back in a very hot Alpbach in Tirol Austria.
All of Europe is in the middle of a heat wave and it smells here everywhere of sweet hay!

I took you'r advice, John and bought on a flee market in Maastricht for 5 euro a set of Medion life speakers and the sound is great !

I have made a reservation for windows 10 after reading on SevenForums about it, to perhaps use in the future, but I am worried that my laptop will be to dated for the switch.

There is still something straingh going on. I cannot update, cannot install windows defender " a problem causes this service program to stop". When I try to start it the page freezes !
Will have to read up about that problem, but I think I will now close this thread having fixed the sound problem with the speakers.

Many thanks to my briljant helpers, specially ICIT2LOL.

Hmm don't know about this last set back Thelma maybe a sfc and chkdsk might be in order - at least it cannot do any harm and do them in safe mode too
