any conexant AC-97 drivers out there??

    hey,
I have an hp zd8230us, and recently installed windows 7 ultimate x64 and I got all the drivers to work fine except audio... i have a conexant AC-97 card and after HOURS of searching and reading and trying many drivers, i am still out of luck. in device manager it only shows up as ( multimedia audio controllers ) so the windows update doesn't work, I had it register as realtek ac-97 at one point but the update said it was up to date when it really didn't work. I even tried driver genius and still no luck. so is there anyone out there that has had better luck then I????

    /sigh

If Crispy's fine suggestion does not work out, right click on the audio device in device manager. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste the results here. Please do not use a screenshot as an alternative.

    http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R145551.EXE

Extract from that first. Then right click on the audio device in device manager. Update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Double click on the extracted .inf and hit ok.

Edit- just noticed x64. Don't think you're going to have too much luck with that. Sorry. That machine will be much better off with x86 Windows anyhow. It has MAX memory 2 GB.

Guys, what's up with AC97 not being supported out of the box?

I don't have it, but it's the most widely spread audio standards in the world!

How can this be? Is this true?
