Windows 7: Lock desktop sound?

Lock desktop sound?

Whenever I unlock the desktop, I get a sound which seems to be "Windows Logon".
There doesn't seem to be a corresponding sound for when the desktop locks. There's a "Windows Logoff" action, but that doesn't sound when the desktop locks.

Perhaps Microsoft thought that no one would need a "Desktop locked" sound, as you'd be bound to know that it had just happened.

But my desktop lock is now managed by a Gkchain.com "Gatekeeper", which uses proximity detection. So, I don't lock my PC before walking away from it; Gatekeeper does that for me. But it would be nice if I had some audible notification as I wander off. As things stand, I walk away and have to glimpse back, to be sure it has locked.

Is there a way of getting a sound at "Desktop Locked" ?

The bottom section where it says 3 between the vertical arrows, has instructions how to run a task when the screen is locked. You could do some small utility to play a wav file.

I've been looking for something like this for years, thank you!

I've resorted to polling, looking for an active process running *.scr, but that was truly horrible!

I've been using scheduled tasks for decades, but never really looked into the triggers before. A whole vista of opportunities has just opened up for me!

If you think of it, please post back your experience after using the method you set up for a while. I have always avoided task scheduler. The UI is so busy. But there isn't much in the way of freeware to do things on a schedule any other way. So I might have to take the plunge myself.

Having been shown how to use Scheduled Tasks (or whatever they are called these days, I'm aware they've been renamed), I now have a mechanism to run a program/script at desktop lock/unlock.

This is where I run into another function I've been looking for, for years...

Is there a way to turn the display power saving on and off from a script?

When my desktop locks, the scheduled task runs my script, and my script runs "Windows Logoff.scr". At this time, I'd also like to put my display into power saving mode.

When the descktop unlocks, I already get the sound of "Windows Logon.scr", but it would be really nice if there was a script that I could use to bring the display out of power-saving mode.
In the past I've used a script which moves the mouse cursor to location 0,0 on my display, then clicks right mouse button. This has the side effect of bringing the display out of power saving, but is a bit of a kludge (my apologies, Cindy, if you're reading this; your mouse program is great!)

OK, here's how I'm getting on... famously!

The "scheduled tasks" work with triggers (rather than timed events) for "On desktop lock for any user" and "On desktop unlock for any user". I discovered the utility/command "nircmd.exe monitor async_on/async_off" which turns the display power on and off as appropriate. I also mute the sound when a lock event happens during my "overnight period" (22:00 to 06:00)

So my gkchain Gatekeeper locks and unlocks my desktop based on my proximity, and the Scheduled Tasks fire scripts which handle everything else.

I have one remaining niggle but I'll start a new thread for that as it's unrelated to sound or desktop locking.

NirSoft has many useful free utilities. Glad you got things configured.
