I have exactly the same problem as you simonfilth, its the only reason im not upgrading to 7 from XP, the sound drivers in 7 are terrible.
well that should cheer you both up. So just wait for a new driver.

yeah i mean the only thing to fix it would be that popping window that asks you what you've just connected. and then you just choose for example "front speakers" and it automatically assigns that jack to front speakers. that would solve all the problems but for some reason, in windows 7, even the same driver that worked with windows xp, looks totally different interface-wise, and there's no such window popping up.

thats because the win7 audio interface wraps around the driver. That will always be the same.

    Hello all Windows 7 users,

This is my first post here so I will try to be clear at all...

I read nearlly most of the thread and didn't find anybody having same problem as me, now I am using Asus P5QL-E motherboard and it has Realtek HD audio. It's connected to Creative 5.1

If I don't install any drivers from driver cd or internet I don't have any problems with my speakers at all. Sound is just ok with Windows 7 standart driver... But when I install any of realtek hd drivers, speakers start to do some silly noise. I did tried lots of drivers from Realtek nearlly all of the versions and the noise never goes away my only opinion is to just uninstal realtek driver. Without the Realtek HD drivers, I don't have the complete control of my sound system...

When I was using vista 64, I never had this problem. I am now on Windows 7 64-bit

    Thank you all...

i guess you've answered your question yourself. It's a driver issue. Remember 7 is not released officially till october so hardware makers have still time to finetune their drivers. Till then you'd expect that nonstandard installations will only work per happenstance.

Either it works and your lucky, it doesn't well.....

It's better to put this realtek support as driver issue.

Thank you for your fast response mate...

As you said I can always use standart drivers but with them I cannot manage surround and the sound quality is worse...

Hi guys I'm new at this forum, and recently upgraded from XP to the last build of Windows 7.
    I'm having this trouble too.
Even with the Windows 7 drivers the noise doesn't stops, but the noise is less than with the Realtek drivers.
So I guess we have to wait

Guys, who have the noise trouble, I think i've got the solution (at least for me worked lol).
Install DriverMax Free, register an account and install the latest update of Realtek :)
    YAY my sound is back!
    Regards to all
