Is the latest driver still really quiet and lackluster? I want Windows 7 back but not with the shockingly bad sound quality and volume i had on it before
Is that why my new head phones sound like crap? They sound great on my MP3 and I-Pod. I cant seam to find any adjustments to improve the sound. My IDT audio control panel does nothing either.
Yep the difference between vista and windows 7 with the same drivers is huge, im sticking against my will with vista until the sound is improved.

By the way does anyone know why the sound is so quiet on windows7 with the exact same drivers compared to vista? I've been wondering this and after about 15 driver updates tried since windows 7 came out and none of them getting anywhere near the volume vista could acheive im wondering if it will ever be the same, i pray im not stuck with windows vista.

DING DING DING.....^^^^^^^ We have a winner.
You are not alone my friend. I got mine hooked up to a 1200 watt 5.1 surround sound home theater, and I have to jack the main box up to nearly level 30 just to be "ok".......
I've downloaded and installed all the latest drivers. Adjusted every sound lever there is in Win 7.....to no avail. It's almost like they have implemented some kind of sound suppression or something. Something is not right. We are not alone. The are others complaining.....google. Waiting for ansowers. Sigh.....
I feel your pain mate, i am resigned to the fact that we will have to wait (probably several more months) but i was just curious as to the reasons why windows 7 seems to be so hard for realtek to make a driver for.

Hey guys, this problem of quiet sound is going with all models of Realtek HD Audio? If yes, there a old driver working perfect?
I have a GA-P35-DS3 motherboard with ALC 889A. I'm with all drivers, ready to do a clean install (i'm with XP) but with these issues i don't know what i do.

Sorry for my bad english, i'm from Brazil.
I know what you mean. No answers yet. I'm looking HARD!!!! This driving me crazy.
Well well well...........this by no means a "fix", but it has "helped".....I am now rocking again with my 1200 watt system. It's loud. But not AS LOUD as it used to be. Just louder than default Win 7.
My "help". Go to Bios. Audio settings. Disable/change from "HD AUDIO".......and change it to AC97 audio.
All I can say is now it is noticeably louder. For me. Your milage may very. Now I'm off to Realtek to see if there is a better solution.
