Thanks for the updates guys.

Quick question: What's the proper procedure to uninstall Realtek sound drivers?

Is it the same as Video cards drivers? (remove via control panel, safe boot ---> driver sweeper).

Hello SlackerITGuy,

For when you already have a older Realtek driver installed, you would just install them twice. The first time uninstalls the old version, restarts, then install the drivers again to install the new version and restarts.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello Bagavan,

Sure, if you would like to. The drivers from Realtek on the first page will most likely be more up to date.

I've just checked the Acer site. The latest Realtek audio driver is 6.0.1.5404 dated 2008/12/08

I would be inclined to download the driver from Realtek as the above driver is nearly 2yrs old.

Hey,

First off I want to see thanks as if it wasn't for this thread I would still be pulling my hair out as i kept losing sound and only a reboot would get it back until I checked that the drivers were out of date. I followed the link and had to do the double install of the latest realtek drivers which went fine. However I was in game and using Teamspeak 3 and all was going fine with no issues with the sound and then after 20 minutes I suddenly lost all sound again. All the cables were in fine, I checked the realtek drivers again and shows they are up to date, I checked th audio manager which was registering there as sound but nohing was coming through the speakers or headphones.

Are there any other suggestions that may work? I wondered whether there was a conflict with teamspeak?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hello, first, I would like to thank you for making this thread. Second, I have a small problem with the installer. I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64. My Realtek sound drivers are from 8/4/2009 and they're version 6.0.1.5910. I downloaded the EXE and ZIP of the Vista/Windows 7 32-64bit drivers. However, when I run either of them, I run into a big problem. The installer proceeds as usual, uninstalling my drivers and restarting my computer. The problem is, when it boots back up and I run the installer again, it still says uninstalling instead of installing. I check my drivers and they're the same 6.0.1.5910 version. No matter how many times I try the installer, it uninstalls instead of installs, and I'm left with my same drivers. Patiently awaiting assistance, thanks!

Try this:

Open control panel, select "Programs and Features", scroll down and fine the Realtek Drivers, Uninstall.

Now, without rebooting, install the new drivers then reboot.

Also, ceck device manager and see if you have both a "High Definition Audio Device" and a Realtek High Definition Device". If so, select the High Definition audio Device then properties and disable it.

Thanks, this... worked(?) I did what you suggested, but when I tried to install, it gave me an error and closed out of the installation. I tried again but the same thing happened. I then decided to restart my computer, and when it booted up, I had the newest driver installed. (6.0.1.6235) So I'm not sure how that happened, but thanks.
