Open control panel, select "Programs and Features", scroll down and fine the Realtek Drivers, Uninstall.

Now, without rebooting, install the new drivers then reboot.

Also, ceck device manager and see if you have both a "High Definition Audio Device" and a Realtek High Definition Device". If so, select the High Definition audio Device then properties and disable it.

Thanks, this... worked(?) I did what you suggested, but when I tried to install, it gave me an error and closed out of the installation. I tried again but the same thing happened. I then decided to restart my computer, and when it booted up, I had the newest driver installed. (6.0.1.6235) So I'm not sure how that happened, but thanks.
Glad you worked it out...that was just a reboot need, i guess...

The new drivers were probably installed all along but Windows was defaulting to it's original driver, not sure why, possibly the new install routines don't take into account windows default (or older) driver models.

It probably would worked had you just uninstalled the drivers in control panel and rebooted.

Hello Chiumient,

You are going to want to choose either the ZIP or EXE version for your 64-bit Windows 7. One is just an installation EXE file, while the other have the individual driver files that will need to be extracted from the ZIP file and to run the Setup file.

I just did all this. It seemed to work fine. When I uninstalled it and restarted I had no start up noise then I installed the new one and restarted and the noise was back. It seems to be working fine. Now how do I check to make sure I have the new one installed for sure?

You can open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), expand Sound, video, and game controllers, double click on your listed Realtek HD Audio device, click on the Driver tab, and see if you have the current 6.0.1.6235 driver version as below.

Yes I have the new one. One more question. It asked me if I wanted to register my device. I tried to. But I could not find my device anywhere. It is made by ATI technologies. But when I went to that one it was not in there.
