Having struggled to download the latest drivers from Realtek, 2.38, they are, like 2.37 before them, worse than the MS drivers that came with W7.

The sound is crackling. Pretty well useless.

As a small aside, can anyone tell me why it is so difficult to download from Realtek. I get so far along, anywhere from 40% to 94% and it stops. I eventualy download from Majorgeeks.

    Ppl, i need help.

I did a clean install yesterday and Windows 7 is running smooth, even the sound: none issues so far, even with the crackling that the everybody is complaining, hehehe.

But... how to configure for Realtek driver and Windows recognize my headphone as a... headphone?
I tried many settings, but it's the same. With the option "stereo" (in the selection menu of Realtek driver, i don't found the "headphone" option), the sound come in two sides of headphones, but this is right? Maybe it's a config for 2.1 speakers...
I'ts the way or this have a solution? See:

EDIT: Nice! I found the problem.
I just go to the "Devide advanced settings" and selected this option:

    And now:

They sometimes update their page with the new version number, but don't make the download available for a day or two after, don't ask me why.

Earlier it went thru with the 3rd site listed for the zip file. Now I only get the download with the 2nd site for the executable. Try all of the 3 sites listed for both until you find one that works.

Ya 6 days is not a long time for a driver to be released.

Realteks FTP site is clearly unable to cope with user demand. They must be amongst the worst bandwidth cheapskates on the planet!

Have spent hours, over many days, attempting to download several updated drivers from them, either without success connecting whatsoever - or the download starts, but then reduces to something in the order of 550 bytes per second, and predictably then fails.

Gigabyte, on the other hand, are months behind on adding up to date driver support, which is a pity since their download site works far better than Realteks.

I'm watching the R239 audio drivers zip file right now. It began at 29Kbps (already hardly what you'd call that good...) with Opera estimating the download at circa 19 minutes... but things quickly deteriorate to below 2Kbps and Opera's displaying an estimated completion time of well over six hours...

I agree with that comment. They're certainly not the speediest of sites when it comes to audio drivers but I don't think we should complain too much. At least they are updating and releasing new driver versions, something which other audio providers don't seem to be doing.

Given the fact they get enormous revenues from mainboard manufacturers (and hence us, the end users!) for their generic audio/ethernet (and other...) chips - I think they're obliged to write, release, and facilitate easy access to driver modules...

Driver updates might as well not exist unless users can obtain them LOL!
