    Sound card that actually works???

I am upgrading a frinds computer and here is the issue and specs:

    Home build
    Asus p4t MB
    1 GB Ram
    P4 1.4
    geforce 5200 256
    Windows 7 home premium

I clean installed (this is the 4th time) I went one component at a time. After initail boot I have internet, install XFI gamer and it kills my network card!? so now I have figured it is the soundcard drivers.

My question is, is there a PCI soundcard that actually works with windows 7 Home? This mother board has no onbord audio. Aparently Creative screwed the pooch on this one...again! any sugestions. Thanks in advance

This has nothing to do with your problem but from what I have read Windows 7 requires 4 GB of ram.

The Xtreme Gamer works fine in 7, the problem is that the rest of the computer is so old that there is little to no support for any of it in 7. It is the lack of any proper motherboard/chipset drivers that is the problem.

    Starting with the motherboard,

    Asus P4T

Intel i850 chipset, that hasn't seen a driver update on over 4 years. The last networking driver from Asus is over 7 years old. The video card (FX5200) isn't supported under 7. The only piece of hardware that you have listed that doesn't have actual Windows 7 support is the X-Fi.

While 7 may install, it will be stuck with whatever it has included in the way of motherboard/chipset drivers. Anything else will be modded.hacked drivers as Intel declared that chipset EOL years ago. While it is nice idea to update the OS for your friend, it would be a better idea to leave it with XP, and tell him to wait till he has a computer better suited to running Windows 7.

Completely untrue, in fact I'm running my old P4 3.0 with only 1GB ram and everything runs perfectly including my sound card. :)

Yeah mines working beautifully with 2gigs of RAM...
Seeing at Vista had 1gb as recommended, and 7 is meant to be less hungry... I think 4gb is a bit crazy!
