Mic level under recording tab -192.0 db

Windows 7 64 bit,Custom built desktop that's used on an amateur radio station,Has been since i built it about a hr ago with no problems, have an external soundcard on it attached to a hf radio by usb been on it since day one,2 day's ago the external sc stopped listening and when i opened the microphone tab on the recording device it was set to -192.0 db and muted, reset it and before i could i even click ok to close it the level changed itself right back to -192,and i noticed when i opened the volume mixer there is atleast 1 usually 2 instances of microsoft(C) register server running and i don't ever remember seeing them before, they are not running when the computer first starts and with no programs open they just appear and that's when it resets itself to -192 db

As you are using an external sound card, if you haven't done it disable the on-board audio in the BIOS. It can conflict.

Normally, USB devices are separate from the sound card, thus microphone input is not normally used. The mic input would be used if you connected an analog signal to the mic input.

Post a screen shot of the Sound Panel, Recording Section and of the Device Manager, Sound section.

That's exactly how the manufacturer of the signalink usb sound card said to adjust it,i called them and they blamed on a windows problem and said they only troubleshoot their products not windows, heres the link to show you what they want done and it's worked for over a year,Tigertronics Home Page,go to support-signalink-second line of second group-windows7,8,10,set-up instructions and i'll work on the shots

Quite a drawn out procedure. Poor, but typical response from a vendor that either does not know how to fix it or does not want to help fix it. Customer is left "holding the bag" trying to fix whatever the problem is.

But as it has worked and all of a sudden didn't, first suggestion is to use the System Restore and restore back to an available restore point when it did work. If that does not fix it, "refresh" the sound by going to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the sound device entry (you didn't state what sound you have so I can't be specific) then LEFT click Uninstall. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound.

See this thread for a possible fix.
Msvcr100.dll is missing from your computer [Solved] - Windows 7 - Windows 7

ADDED: Some programs require Microsoft C++ compiler but do not install it with the program and assume its already on the PC. I ran into that with an older version of Sonar (recording program). I had to manually download and install the runtime before Sonar would install.

USB Condenser Mic Recording Volume Level
Hi guys, basically I have purchased a behringer c-1u, of course before I did some research and there were issues with the volume. Now that I have it, I have the same issue that many people with the mic also have, and that is with the volume it records at. In the windows sound mixer the...

Audio Recording Level of G-Track Mic Jumps up randomly to 100%
Hi I have a G-Track Mic. Per other posts in this forum, the mic prefers it when the recording level in Windows for that device is set at 8%. I change it to 8%, and randomly -- and regularly (sometimes even in the middle of a recording in Magix Samplitude), it jumps back up to 100%, causing...

Recording level keeps changing
I am using Sound Recorder. I have adjusted my Microphone level using the Recording Devices via a right click on the speaker. But as I record the level keeps decreasing. I adjust it back up then then later I see it decreased again (often to a level that it doesn't record enough to even hear it in a...

Line Level Input Recording Volume LOW / QUIET
I have Xonar D1 with Windows 7 x64 using Sound Forge 9.0e to capture audio from Line Level inputs (LPs played on stereo system). The recording level maxes at -12Db to -15Db. This of course artificially restricts the dynamic range. All settings are maxed in the Xonar D1 control panel as well...
