Switching between onboard sound and external sound card

First, let me say that I am a sound novice! I recently started a vinyl ripping project. My onboard sound does not support 24 bit depth recording at 96 kHz sampling rate, so I purchased an external USB card with phono preamp. It works just fine for my project. But as long as external sound card is plugged into a USB port, it takes control of all sound. I'd like to be able to toggle back to my onboard audio when I'm not ripping vinyl so I can listen through my system speakers. I have experimented with Windows audio controls, but have not found a way to do this. Is it possible?

Did you check whether there was a switching option in the BIOS

Thank you! That solved the problem.

It takes about 60 seconds for the Sound dialog to appear after right clicking on the loudspeaker in the system tray and selecting "Playback devices." But then if I change the default playback device to "Speakers/Headphones RealTek" the sound plays through my speakers.
