Only able to use 7.1 surround Sound for audio output

    Hi,

I have done an upgrade with my graphics card to GTX 970 Strix so am attempting to play games again but am having trouble with sound. My front panel headphone input is broken so I now am trying to use the green output in the motherboard (P8z77-v LX). I have downloaded the latest Realtek drivers and am able to have sound come through my headphones only when the playback device is set to 7.1 surround. Everything else is mute...I need to have it set to Stereo for voiceovers to be heard in Fallout 4 but am unable to do this. Why is it letting me use 7.1 but not stereo?

    OS - Windows 7 64

    Thankyou

So why did you chose to change doing that after the upgrade the 970 is more then capable to continue using it. As for the 7.1 issue is your front panel connection physically broken, if so I would unplug it from the mobo so it does not think something is in it. What headphone is it, and you only have the green plugged in? And last when in the playback devices when you click configure on it and pick stereo and hit test you hear nothing but see the green bars go up?
