I am a Chat room moderator and DJ for children, I have recently bought a PC as I had my Laptop and some bits stolen from my PC, I have a Dell Optiplex 780, 32 bit, there is no stereo mix, if I right click in the box Stereo Mix does not come up, my microphone works great in the room but I need something for music into the chat room, it says in the box Microphone High Definition audio device default device, then there is the Line in can anyone help me please, I have looked at enough videos online showing me to right click and still nothing Thank you.

The Stereo Mix option ( AKA Record what you hear), was removed from a lot of sound cards & sound chips after lobbying by the content providers as it allows you to digitally record any source you can play through the speakers, so can circumvent copyright protection systems.

You may want to look at one of the many available Plug-in USB sound cards or a traditional PCI card some of these still have the Stereo mix option it would also allow you to have two sound outputs to provide Live and Monitor streams for DJ'ing

Two issues. First, if you don't have the correct sound driver installed and only have the generic, basic function, Windows installed High Definition Audio installed, it does not have Stereo Mix. You need to install the correct sound driver.
Here is the link to the correct ADI sound driver on the Dell site.

If you do have the correct sound driver and still do not have Stereo Mix, have you tried enabling Disabled and Disconnected devices in the Sound Panel Recording Section?
Many have it disabled from the factory and it just needs enabling.

In the Sound Panel/Recording Section, RIGHT click in a blank area in that panel and then click to Show Disabled and Disconnected Devices. If Stereo Mix now shows you can enable it and make it the Default Recording Device.

BTW, I would not consider upgrading this to Win 10, Dell notes this system is not certified for Win 10.

What type of microphone do you have? Standard PC microphone, a regular P.A. type microphone, or a USB?
