Headphones volume suddenly decreased?

Windows 7 64-bit Professional
Intel High Definition Audio

I usually have my headphones at 14 or 12, because the volume is very loud in them. However, I'm fine with this.
Today, I went to watch a video and I couldn't hear anything. I looked at my headphones, turned them up to 100, and I could then hear it. When my headphones are at 100 now, it's like when they were at 12 before. Is there any way I can make it so that whatever volume 100% currently is could be set to 12%?

Hello Alpha mate what are you driving the phones from - the board? if so have you checked the drivers are up to date an d have you checked the sound in the notification area of the taskbar and in Control Panel.

Just sounds (no pun ) simple but have you tried cleaning the jack contacts too?

The jack contacts are good, the volume notification icon is showing up, I'm putting it in the board.
The problem is that before, this would sound like full volume: Screenshot by Lightshot
Now 100% is full volume. I just want to make 12% sound like full volume, that's how it was before.

Hmm well it has me wondering about the audio circuitry then it would only take a dud cap for example to restrict the original output - might be worth a look around that part of the board for anything amiss.

I am assuming you have run these too?

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2 > in safe mode if need be

and maybe these too
