Win 7 can't detect my sound card

I'm using Windows 7 since the RTM release. I have no problem accept frequent overheating, now my laptop can't detect an audio device. So, I try to install the Realtek HD driver, but it can't since there is no audio device.

What should I do?

Hi and welcome

type device manager in search. Go to the sound tab and see if yours is listed and if it has a yellew triangle on it. If it is not look for any "unknown" devices with yellow on them.

Let us know the results

According to HP your notebook is not supported to run Windows 7. After typing in your model it says this. Read here. Select your operating system Compaq Presario F762AU Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

I have also problem with my sound card. I've been using XP on my "old" computer. Recently, I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 64b, but from the moment I installed new system, windows can't detect sound card. Device manager shows yellow triangle over Sound Adapter. It shows Unknown Device when double clicked. My sound card is Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi mX Xtreme Gamer. Before I installed Windows 7 64b, I installed Windows 7 32b for like 15 minutes (took another DVD, lol), and there was exactly the same problem. Also, driver can't be installed, as driver installer can't see the device.

Looking forward for any tips'n'trics, thx

Tomiz it could be due to a missing chipset driver. Also is you X-Fi a retail card or from somewhere like Dell? If it is from Dell, they have a tendency to not work with the reference Creative drivers.
