    Import XP sound scheme into Windows 7?

    Hi All;

    For many years now I've had a custom sound scheme where every event caused a different carefully chosen .wav from "2001: A Space Odyssey" to play. For example, Critical Stop would cause Hal to say "Just a moment", a new IM would have Hal say "there is a message for you" , when the system is shutting down Hal will say " I know that you and Frank have been planning to disconnect me and that's something I just can't allow to happen" , etc. (BTW, anyone who wants the set of .wav files please let me know).

    Now, I could, of course, tediously compare all the settings from XP and duplicate them in Win7. But, that would not be elegant. I'm trying to figure out if the registry settings for sound schemes in XP are compatible with Win7, and if so, where are they in Win7?

    Thanks in advance,

    Raargh

    Well darn,you must have listened to my sound scheme because I have the same thing and I also can't get some of the sounds to play now in W7 where they did in XP.They play when I test them in "sounds" but not during normal operation.

    I don't have the answer but I do have the same problem so I shall be interested if there is a fix.

    Thanks for posting

    Interesting - you too went to the web and grabbed all those cool 2001 sounds?

    I can get them to work during normal operation ( I just tested with a few such as "theme change" and "default beep").

    Did you put the sounds in ..\windows\media?

    I have added to windows media and I have some sounds in other places,I get a long list of sounds ,mine & windows,in the change sounds selection.

    I have a few sites bookmarked that have movie sound bites,all kinds of other sounds,I used to have the toilet flush sound when I shut down comp but now I have another sound.I am still playing with the sound scheme to get it just right ,where it doesn't become annoying,I have a custom sound for almost everything.

    I have a few,almost all,of the 2001 Hal sounds,but I don't use them for everything.
    I used to have the Twilight Zone theme music play when I started my machine but I have another sound for start up but it won't play,actually nothing I choose will play on start up,only the W7 default sound,oh well.

    Just something to amuse me.:)

    @Newt;

    Cool!

    Were you able to get the sounds to stick? (I finally just manually set up mine in Win7).
