    Creative Software Autoupdate Issue

So I ran the software autoupdate and got all the updates but now when I try to run the autoupdate any shortcut for it is broken because the name of the exe has changed and when I try to run it from the exe it says "specified module could not be found".

I remember having this issue before and I can't remember how I fixed it. I tried renaming the exe back to what it was before but still get the same problem.

Anyone else get this issue and know what to do to fix it?

You mean that thing actually works? Or at least sort of. That is one thing from the Creative software I have never allowed to install, seen too many have problems with it. That and it is just as easy to got here,

Creative Worldwide Support > X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion Series

and see what is new. In this case the latest of anything other than the driver from June of this year is Alchemy, and that is almost a year old.

Sorry I don't have a fix for it other than not to use it.

No it actually works the best for updates. I start by installing all of the latest stuff posted on the creative site instead of using discs but then I run the software update and get the actual latest updates. Most of what they post on the site is actually out of date and if you run the auto update you get a bunch of additional fixes and things that you can't from the site.

I have always used the auto update but I have had it break like this twice now and I can't remember how I ended up fixing it last time. But as I remember it was a really simple fix I just don't remember exactly what it was I did. I guess I can just take the files from the other computer here and correct the updater that way but I would like a better solution because a second computer is not always there to rely on.

I realise that this post was made a long time ago, but in case you come back to read it again and see if someone answered it, and in case you still haven't figured out the solution, I thought I would submit this reply...

If it's a matter of the link being broken, you need to open the properties of the link and open Windows Explorer and look in the folder to see if the file is there. If not, then do a search for it. Maybe it's in another folder. If it's not there, do you have an old backup? Maybe you could download just the one file from that backup. My backup program allows me to do that.

It could be possible that its own AutoUpdate function has removed it from your computer. If you search the Creative website, you'll find that they do have the link, but they have disabled it, so you can now no longer download it. In addition, all of the third-party websites have links that have been disabled. I read somewhere that it caused Creative an embarassment and I think it was because it was found to leave a firewall port wide open for hackers to attack.

It's been 265 days since I made that post, but now that I'm reading it again, I see something that I didn't know when I wrote that post that I want to correct. If this doesn't help the original poster of this thread, at least it would help someone who happens to find this thread in which to try to solve his problem.

DON'T use Creative Auto-Update. If you do, THAT may be the reason you're getting the "Device not found" error code that you're talking about. Just uninstall all of the Creative programs and re-install them FROM THE ORIGINAL CD--and then do NOT use Creative updates of any kind--either Auto-Update, or updates from their websites.

I just installed a brand-new X-Fi Elite Pro soundcard that I bought about 3 years ago and didn't get around to installing it until now. Now, since it's over 2 years old, it's now on their "End of Life list". It was working fine--until I downloaded and installed all of the new drivers and programs. Then I couldn't use the soundcard anymore, even though it WAS brand new, because for almost every program I clicked on, I got that error message, "Device not found". I uninstalled all the Creative programs and re-installed them from the CD, and voilą, everything worked fine again. Then I uninstalled the Creative Auto-Updates.
