sound stops

I have an HP Pavilian DV7 basic build config was with win vista I upgraded to win7 ultimate.

My issue is every few days or each day just random my sound stops working all together, i click the lil "sound icon" next to the time and clock on the taskbar it shows that there is sound to be played but nothing comes live. I have to restart my PC and then it works, ive had this issue from day one.

Anyone know what may be causing this?

Hi and welcome

It could be a driver, or a 3rd party app that is interfering.
for driver check device manager (type device manager in search) go to the sound tab. Is your driver listed? does it have a yellow triangle on it? Are there any other "unknown" devices with yellow on them?

for a conflict app you can use msconfig to selectively turn off things that auto start

Hey, there are no yellow triangles anywhere... the 2nd tab is Computer "ACPI x64-based PC."

Well i'd do the msconfig but see i wouldn't know what to look for because my computer could be running with sound for hrs or days before it just stops so i don't think it would be a auto start program?

Sound Suddenly Stops During Gaming
Hi, I think that Windows might be disabling my sound device during gaming because it thinks it is idle. I don't know if this is the exact reason but after much testing have come to this conclusion. Anyway, the problem is that while playing some games (for example Borderlands, Civ 5) the sound...
