Startup Sound? Is there a way to change the startup sound in Win 7 64-bit? Nothing I've tried so far works.

I don't think that you can change it, but you can turn it off with the checkbox at the bottom of the sounds tab. I don't know whether you could go beyond that without some kind of reg change or ?. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DIY OS W7x64 Pro, SuSe 12.1/** W7 x64 Pro, XP MCE CPU Phenom II 1090T w/Noctua NH-D14 /**4400+ X2 w/CM Hyper TX 3 Motherboard ASRock 890FX Deluxe 4/**A8N-SLI Memory 2 x 2GB Patriot PGS34g1600LLKA/**4x1GB Corsair VS Graphics Card EVGA GTX460 SC/**EVGA 8800GTS Sound Card Asus Xonar D2X/**Xonar D1 Monitor(s) Displays Acer X233H, KDS AV-7TF/**LG M237-WD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 & 1280x1024/**1980x1080 Keyboard Logitech Media USB/**Saitek Eclipse Mouse Cordless Trackman Wheel/**Ditto PSU CM RS600 w/ APC BX1000G/**Antec 500 TP w/ APC BX1000 Case HAF922/**Antec 1040IIB Cooling 3x200mm, 1x140 and 1x120mm/**5x80mm fans Hard Drives WDC 2TB, 1.5TB, 1TB, 500GB,Seagate 500GB , Maxtor 80GB /**500GB Seagate & WDC 1TB Black Internet Speed 3.3Mbps Other Info SB 560 5.1 w/ Sennheiser RS140/**Creative T20 speakers, Dvico FusionHDTV7 Gold RT, Cisco E3000, HP 5510V AIO, Linksys E3000, Belkin F5U237 hub and **F5D8055 adapter

There are a few suggestions on how to change it, but Windows won't let me replace the system file. Not even in Safe Mode. | My System Specs | | |

Try this: Sounds - Change
If it will not help, post back.
We will try Taking ownership of the file (but It's not much recommended, so try normal way first) | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86 SP1 |

If you take ownership of the C:\Windows\Media folder you should be able to place a new startup wav file in there if you give it the same name as the original... I didn't actually realise you couldn't change it in the sound options interface (mine is turned off as it annoys the bejeezus out of me anyway!) | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built machine OS W7 x64 CPU Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz Quad LGA775 (Would like Q9650) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3R (F6 Bios) Memory 4Gb OCZ Gold 1,333Mhz Graphics Card Palit HD4850 O/C Sonic 512Mb DDR3, Dual DViD's Sound Card Azalia to twin Samson 50w Studio Monitors Monitor(s) Displays Twin Dell (E-IPS) U2311H 23.6" Screens Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz Keyboard Cherry PS/2 custom model Mouse Logitech M500 Laser Mouse PSU OCZ 600w Case Lian-Li PC8 acoustifoamed' aluminium tower Cooling Scythe 140mm Zipang Hard Drives Twin 1Tb Barracuda archivage, Twin TV/PVR 2Tb Samsungs, (80Gb Barracuda for the OS, but SSD envisaged...) I think you copied wrong link Perhaps I'm wrong, but I would assume that the reason that the file can't be deleted is because it is protected, thus my link. If it is not, then little is lost...except the time spent responding to your post. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DIY OS W7x64 Pro, SuSe 12.1/** W7 x64 Pro, XP MCE CPU Phenom II 1090T w/Noctua NH-D14 /**4400+ X2 w/CM Hyper TX 3 Motherboard ASRock 890FX Deluxe 4/**A8N-SLI Memory 2 x 2GB Patriot PGS34g1600LLKA/**4x1GB Corsair VS Graphics Card EVGA GTX460 SC/**EVGA 8800GTS Sound Card Asus Xonar D2X/**Xonar D1 Monitor(s) Displays Acer X233H, KDS AV-7TF/**LG M237-WD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 & 1280x1024/**1980x1080 Keyboard Logitech Media USB/**Saitek Eclipse Mouse Cordless Trackman Wheel/**Ditto PSU CM RS600 w/ APC BX1000G/**Antec 500 TP w/ APC BX1000 Case HAF922/**Antec 1040IIB Cooling 3x200mm, 1x140 and 1x120mm/**5x80mm fans Hard Drives WDC 2TB, 1.5TB, 1TB, 500GB,Seagate 500GB , Maxtor 80GB /**500GB Seagate & WDC 1TB Black Internet Speed 3.3Mbps Other Info SB 560 5.1 w/ Sennheiser RS140/**Creative T20 speakers, Dvico FusionHDTV7 Gold RT, Cisco E3000, HP 5510V AIO, Linksys E3000, Belkin F5U237 hub and **F5D8055 adapter
