Video and Sound Freeze / Temporarily Fixed by reboot

My PC will work fine but, randomly, throughout the day, media players freeze up. When it occurs, it happens to youtube, windows media player, vlc, wmp. All of them.

Reboot will fix the issue for a little while. I have the latest soundcard driver from Creative (2.18.0013 from last June). Upgraded my videocard but the problem still happens throughout the day. What can I do to resolve it permanently?

I know this cant be an isolated problem. I beg... please, pretty please, can someone point me in the right direction? I've updated drivers but that didnt work. I don't know what else to try.
