after playing with sounds in my theme i replaced all sounds with default Windows Battery Low.wav and beep is default Windows User Account Control.wav

subtle yet informative. no more jumping from chair while watching movie and new mail arrives with loud DING!

I prefer not to use a sound scheme, as I often play music through my HiFi and got sick of hearing Windows sounds at high volume.
I would assume you know this, but one of the very nice new features of audio handling in Win7 is that each and every application has it's own "volume slider", which can be set independently of every other application.

And "System Sounds" counts as a unique application. So you can drop the level of System Sounds to as high or low as you want, having nothing to do with the volume level on other applications.

In other words, whereas WinXP had only one WAV slider in its mixer, Win7 conceptually has an infinite number of WAV sliders. As each app (including System Sounds) emits its first sound since you've booted, it is added to the growing list of apps shown in the "volume mixer" (selected from the popup menu from RMB on the white speaker icon in System Tray). As the list grows there will be a horizontal scroll bar, so that you can navigate to any app that has produced sound so far.

Each app's volume level is adjustable, and remembered by Win7 so the next time you boot and that app is started and emits sound, its volume level will be just what you want.

So, even though there is only one actual set of speakers for your sound (e.g. your HiFi system), just because you're playing music (with CD Player, or WMP, or Winamp, or whatever) loud doesn't mean your System Sounds also have to be loud. They can be "tiny"... just set the System Sounds slider in the Volume Mixer to very low.

I use wav files in the attached.RAR for various things with "meepmeep" being my New Email sound.
