Windows 7: Xfi Issues

Xfi Issues

I'm think this is the same issue others are having, but wanted to post anyway to see if there is a possible solution somewhere I've missed while searching the forums.

My soundcard is a SB X-Fi Fatality Gamer (one with Xram) - rest of system specs should be correct (I'll double check after I finish this post).

I'll play one of my games for a while, any game, and sound will start crackling and/or go out altogether. Once I exit the game system sounds are normal, but if I go into any other game, sounds start out cracking or don't even start at all until either the game crashes or I reboot the system.

Sometimes this will happen if I've surfed the web or done anything else first then try to play a game.

I've tried Creative's drivers, Daniel_K's drivers, and a couple of the PAX drivers with no difference.

Is this the same issue others are having and if so are there any solutions other than going to onboard sound (which is disabled in bios for now - no drivers installed either). I'd prefer the SB because the sounds are much better.

Thanks in advance.....

Not that you have a lot of options, but have you tried it in the other PCI slot? If not uninstall the drivers and apps first, then move the card to the other slot.

try THIS, its something i put together my self and im using. Just remove everything from creative first and make sure everything from drivers is erased (when you remove drivers in device manager, tick "uninstall...." at least, to make sure you can also run drivers sweeper at the end) and then install by numbers in the package install drivers first, then reboot, then you can install other apps without reboot and ofc reboot at the end.

Thanks SoLoR, I'll remove all SB stuff using DriverCleaner from Guru3D and give it a try.

hi, i've heard a few rumors about the X-FI problem.

One of them suggested that windows 7 + 4gb of ram + X-Fi drivers = crackling sounds. I tried windows 7 32 bits and 64 bits with 2gb of RAM and I still had some crackling sounds in specific games.

I've also tested my onboard soundcard with the latest realtek drivers and the issue is still there.

The other theory i couldn't test was that Nvidia video card + soundcard drivers on windows 7 = crackling sounds.

I've found no solution about this issue.

...Waiting for the next drivers.

I have issues only in 1 game I play so far, no crackling sounds while listening to music, so it may be a combination of video + sound that causes problems in certain games.

I had the same board and sound card for a little bit and did not notice any problems with the sound. Make sure you have the latest bios and try the bottom slot for the x-fi if you haven't not already

no problem, they are "homebrewed" mix between latest beta for auzentech prelude and x-fi. If creative gives us drivers once / year, its time to help our selfs
