Windows 7: Dolby Digital works for DVD's but not mpeg.

I have an a-bit ip-35 pro with the ACL888 audio onboard. There is an optical spdif output that I have running to my receiver. If I put a dvd in the drive I get the dolby digital plus logo in the lower left corner and great sound using Windows Media player.



When I play an mpeg, the receiver doesn't recognize the dolby digital and just tries to play the left center and right, but I don't get the correct sound. It just sounds like baseball cards in a bicycle spoke. To make sure it was dolby digital I used convertxtodvd to make it into a dvd Windows Media player played it in dolby digital plus and played it excellently. so the mpeg is in Dolby digital.

I haven't been able to get dolby digital to work on VLC media player at all. Although it does do slightly better because it repeats about 1/2 seconds worth of audio for 5 seconds and then repeast a new 1/2 second of audio, but the receiver does recognize the dolby digital 5.1

I have the latest drivers for realtek (2.41) I tried updating my bios to the latest version, but still no luck. I assume this is a problem with Windows media player I'm not sure if I need to get a codec or something. (VLC I have no idea) I am running Windows 7 64-bit. Thanks.

Direct X: 9.0C
VLC: 0.8.6d

Settings Inside VLC:
Enable SPDIF
Preferences / Audio / Output Modules / Audio Output Module = Win32 Waveout extension output (without this setting I got stutter)

still no luck with Windows Media player, it would be nice to know if there was a fix, but I prefer VLC anyway. ALso the main thing was for a mythtv frontend, which is also working.
