In Control Panel>Sound, make sure that your speakers are set at the default device. Right-click on them and confirm this.
Am I understanding your question right?

Hi, JK... The problem is ONLY with the modem... Other sounds are OK. I don't see any indication in the Sound (Speakers)properties for setting it "at the default device". YY

Hi
1.Go to Control Panel > Sound
2.In the "Playback", double click on Speakers (note:It must be "Default Device")
3.In the "Levels",click on "Speaker icon" in front of "phone line" to remove the mute sign (red sign).
