Windows 7: alternate MIDI wavetables

alternate MIDI wavetables

I found a Vista MIDI fix which allows the selection of a MIDI wavetable for playback, unfortunately I only have the stock MS GS synth table which I never cared for.

Can anyone point me to some decent W7 compatible, preferably free wavetables? I only need playback, no MIDI hardware support.

I don't know of any free MIDI synth. The built in Microsoft GS Wavetable is not very good. I have a SoundBlaster sound card and SoundBlaster's have built in hardware MIDI Synths that are much better than the Microsoft software synth.

I also have Band in a Box program and it comes with a Roland VSC software MIDI Synth and it's comparable to the SoundBlaster hardware Synths.

I have some other MIDI synths that come with my Sonar recording studio software but they are not free.
