is the creative sound blaster x-fi mb sound card, in a dell studio, asio compatible?
is there a driver that would work for this hardware?

If you just have the Xfi "MB" option that is ONLY a software enhancement to the Integrated Audio in the PC, It's not a full SoundBlaster Xfi sound "card". I'm not sure what all the software enhancement does. I do a lot of support on the Dell users forum but it's primarily with Desktops, and very little with Laptops. The Xfi MB software is strictly an OEM product and Creative (SoundBlaster) does not offer any support or software updates.

That 1774, if it is the correct model number, must be a new model as it's not listed in the Dell downloads yet as I wanted to check on the actual sound module used (e.g. RealTek or IDT).

I have a Retail PCIe Xfi Fatal1ty on my Desktop and it is ASIO compliant and my Sonar 8.5.2 Recording program recognizes it (although I don't use it with Sonar).

it says there are 1 controllers, one says "High Definition Audio device"
the other said IDT High Definition Audio Codec.

this leads me to believe i have no sound card. is my assumption true?

Check with the Windows Compatibility Center or with the manufacturer of the hardware in question: Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly.
