no sounds won't stay disabled

i recently downloaded a theme pack off a torrent site, and now my no sounds option won't stay disabled.

every time i click on a different theme, it makes a sound and reverts back to windows default option, making me reset the no sound option again.

the theme pack came with a setup file which i was wary of, but went ahead with the install.

even though i've uninstalled and cleaned my registry, i still have the same problem.

has anyone run across the same problem and any suggestions?

Hi, I found the same problem. I want no sounds to be permanent, But installing
a new theme always changes the sounds to whatever the theme calls for.

To permanently disable the sounds, go to C:\Windows\Media.

Right click Media and select " Take Ownership"

Than create a new folder called " Media Backup " and move all the files
under C:\Windows\Media to the new Media Backup file.

That will keep Windows from finding the sound files, thus when the themes change the sound scheme they will not be available.

Note that this will hide all sounds. If you want them back, move them back to
Media.

Please post back your results

hey, when i right click on media, i don't have the "take ownership option."

i did a clean install instead, and i'm still having the same problems without downloading any theme packs...weird.

i thought it was because of theme pack i installed, but i'm beginning to think this is how it's normally set up?

do the sound options change every time you change themes whether you've downloaded any themes or not?

In order to " Take Ownership " go to this link,

Take Ownership Shortcut

It will add an item to the context menu " Take Ownership " , Than right click
on " Media " . This will take ownership of the Media file and all sub folders.

Than highlight all the Sounds ( the *.wav Files ) than cut and paste, or just drag
this group to the newly created " Media Backup " file.

This will keep the sound files available if you ever want to recover them.

Hope this helps, Please let me know

It probably keeps changing because the theme you are probably enabling has sounds as part of the theme. Now if you activate that theme the sound that comes with it is also going to be enabled.
