HP Pavilion DV6324 No Sound Conexant

Hello,

Ran a Windows 7 upgrade 32bit on the dv6324, everything works alright except for the sound. However, the weird thing is -- it appears as if the sound card drivers are installed and working properly. In fact, the volume bar is even green, and you can slide it around as if it was properly working -- just no sound comes out from the speakers. I have tried multiple drivers, including the vista 32 drivers (ran in compat mode) and supposed win7 drivers (found from the microsoft catalog) but nothing seems to work. Windows Update doesn't find anything. Anyone else have an issue similar to this? Or have any ideas as to what may fix it? HP hasn't posted Win7 drivers for this model, yet....shocker.

completely unintsall sound device and reboot and let windows redectect it

Yeah, I know. It just re-installs it with the already conexant driver, which appears to be working (and windows even says no problems are detected with this device), volume bar slides, etc. Just, no sound actually comes out.

try plugging in a set of external speakers and see if you get sound

Andrew, I have the exactly the same problem with my HP Pavilion dv6000. Did you find a solution?

On Computersplus reply, the sound doesn’t work from the speakers or from any external device like earphones or external speakers.


Just like Andrew, I tried everything. Download Vista drivers and installed in compatible mode, Troubleshoot sound problems, I even opened the laptop to make sure the ribbon wires underneath the keyboard were connected .

When updating the “Conexant High Devinition Audio” driver, it tells me that it is working properly and is up to date.

The green bar at the volume icon is jumping up and down when playing music that tells me everything should be working, but still no sound from the onboard speakers or earphones.

Please can anyone help?

If you right click on the Microsoft speaker icon and select playback devices...... what is set as the default output. If it's digital out you're not going to hear anything.

That's the only thing I can think of.

I haven't found a solution, yet. And no, there is no sound even with external speakers for me either. Um, did you upgrade to 7 or did you do a clean install? My machine is an upgrade.

Aphelion - I have 2 icons in that playback windows
1) Speaker Icon Conexant high definition Audio (Default Device)
2) SPDIF Interface Connectant High Definition Audio (Ready)
if i Right click on the speaker icon and click Test, i see the green bar jumping up and down but still no sound.

Andrew - I didnt do an upgrade. I formatted my laptop and doen a clean installation of Windows 7 32bit.
Everything works well. very fast. i love windows 7 but its just my sound thats not working.
Please if you find any solution to the problem, please let me know. I will do the same.

There has been no mobo replacement, and all the wires are connected properly. The issue specifically surfaced directly after the vista to windows 7 upgrade. Sigh.
