After reading through the forum regarding no sound output through laptops to tv,s I have experianced this with my Dell Studio 1531 laptop and having tried updating all the drivers required to no avail I found a fix. Connect laptop to tv with hdmi lead select the the hdmi input on the tv and finally switch the laptop on and when it boots up I had sound through the tv speakers and the hdmi option was available in the sounds menu on the laptop. So when I connect up to my tv I leave the laptop as the last thing to switch on and it works everytime.
It sounds like you don't need help, but are posting a solution to HDMI sound issues? Correct me if I'm wrong, otherwise I will mark this thread 'Solved'...
