Can't Get Headphone Jack to Work

I see that a lot of people have had this problem, and I have been trying to fix it but I am out of ideas. I have a Compaq Presario V3000 and ever since I installed Windows 7 Pro 32-bit, the headphone jack doesn't work. No entry for Headphones shows up in my Playback devices. I am pretty sure it is that my current driver is not compatible with Win7, but is there any other driver that I would be able to use in order to get this to work? The laptop speakers work, however they do not mute. Please let me know if you can help or if you need more info about my hardware. Thanks.

Check HPs website and make sure you have the latest sound drivers and chipset drivers...

Issues like this with laptops are a pain in the butt! It has to be a driver since you said it worked fine with your previous OS.

Unfortunately HP/Compaq is the WORST for driver support IMHO...

Here is the compaq DL page for your lappy... http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...roduct=1817059
According to HP/Compaq, they dont support Win7 on your lappy... but the Vista drivers should work.

Which drivers have you installed from this list?

Well I just tried all four and I couldn't get any of them to install. They all resulted in "failure" or said that it could not find the MEDIA device to install it. This sucks.

I dont know what order you did things after the initial install, but its recommended to always install the chipset drivers first, then subsequent drivers.

You may want to backup all your data and try again...

    Or purchase a USB headset/mic???

I think this might be beyond my technical skill level so I don't want to end up doing more harm than good without specific instructions or a new, updated driver for my comp that supports Windows 7.

One more idea... uninstall all sound driver you tried and try to install the latest Vista driver using compatability mode (right click on file and use Troubleshoot Compatability)

Please let us know if that helps...

First of all....I LOVE YOU haha....finally this worked for me and I can't thank you enough for the help. I don't know if it was the compatibility mode or the fact that I tried an older chipset driver but it works now and I don't want to mess with it anymore. 1000x THANK YOU!
