Your media players are probably hooking up to the standard volume controls. If you have the option, set your media players to use the "Default Direct Sound Device" for playback. Direct sound has it's own set of volume controls and won't disturb your standard windows mixer...

I've got Win7 x64 on a lenovo G560, and I'm trying to record from an IE webcast using loop recorder.
The recording application has the ability to select a device from the mixer to record from, but when I raise the volume level of IE in the mixer, the volume level of the main speakers...
Okay. In XP I could adjust the audio balance in two clicks.
I have just realized that in Seven it takes me no fewer than five; and then it's *still* not a balance slider, but just individual channel volumes.
Can anyone explain how this is supposed to be an improvement? So many things...
