I have a Dell Inspiron 14 laptop with Win 7 x64 (factory install).
Internal mic and speakers are working fine.
I'm trying to use external headphones with a boom mic. Both the headphones and mic are recognized by the IDT sound driver when plugged into the jacks on the side of the laptop. Headphones work. Mic works with Skype but not with the Windows Speech recognition software nor with the windows sound recorder.

Any ideas??

Is the microphone volume set above zero?
Make sure it is.

yes. Mic works with fine Skype. Without changing settings, neither speech recognition nor windows recorder recognizes any input (no movement on volume graph and nothing recorded)

It has been my experience that there is a compatability issue with IDT and x64 platforms.I had the same problem with Vista, and now with Windows 7 I have a different sound driver app.(Came w/ Asus mobo) and it will now function...somewhat. I have to manually switch between defaults to get it to work properly.

thanks - make me a bit angry with Dell selling untested crap or if they did test - selling it anyway
