Cracking / Popping Sound

Hello everyone,

I've been noticing a "popping" or "cracking" noise coming from my speakers/headphones.

The first I noticed it was during a movie, and I assumed it was the movie's audio - but since then I have been hearing it during music and other movies and from both speakers and headphones.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to what could be causing it...

Any help would be appreciated.

Here's a thread that could be of some help to you....

DPC Latency

I just ran that DPC Latency tool - and it's reading VERY high.... red bars all the way across the screen. About 30,000 current latency.

I disabled the only listed Network Adapter from Device Manager and the latency instantly dropped in to the green (was off the top of the screen red before that).

So, I think I've identified the problem as the ethernet controller - but what do I do?

Have you checked for an updated driver?

I clicked "Update Driver Software.." from the right-click menu in Device Manager and Windows says it is up to date.

I did a quick search to find the Atheros website (manufacturer of my network card) but could not find any drivers on their site.

What is the model of your network card?

As it reads in Device Manager:

"Atheros AR8121/AR8113/R8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller"

There is an Asus auto detect feature on this page that should steer you towards your drivers.

There is no guarantee an updated driver will resolve the latency issue....but it's a good place to start since you narrowed down the cause. I would also check to see if there are updated sound card drivers as well.

Thanks!

A reinstall of the drivers has my latency in the green.
