Windows 7: Realtek 882 / HP Emery Motherboard, Win 7

Realtek 882 / HP Emery Motherboard, Win 7

I was going nuts trying to get my daughter's audio working on her HP computer. Apparently I gather from the search that many people are having audio difficulties with the older Asus/HP 5PlP-LE boards.
I had replaced a defective 5PLP-LE motherboard. Unfortunately at the time I didn't realize the Asus/HP had MANY variations of a very similar board. She originally had a "Leonite" (from a SR5050NX) and I got an older "Emery" (donor model unknown) as a replacement off Ebay.
It require a fresh install of Windows 7 (and a call to Microsoft for activation). Anyway, she had no sound even though Windows reported that the drivers were properly install. The prompt was that the "speakers weren't connected" (when infact they were).

I seached a lot of places and tried many things. In the end I got a Realtek 2.47 driver from the Realtek site. The drivers would not install. I kept getting an overwhelming number of prompts on the driver install that went nowhere.

Eventually I got smart and removed the Windows 7 Driver and THEN installed the Realtek driver. This time it installed properly. Follow this below. I can't account for every variation of the Asus/HP P5LP-LE motherboard, but on the Emery board this worked!

1.Download the Realtek Vista_Win7_R2.47 driver

2. Remove the drive that Windows 7 installs.

3. Migrate to where you downloaded the driver.

4. Install the Realtek Vista_Win7_R2.47 driver. Note, click on the first “set-up” (appication) in the list (there are a number of "setups"). Do not go to the Vista and Vista 64 folder (inside the Realtek folder). Note that it takes some time for the driver to unzip.

5. Follow the standard install procedures. Reboot the computer when prompted.

6. Be patient. Initially the red X on the speaker icon will still be there. Windows takes about 30 seconds or so to install the drivers once the device is found.

Hope it works for you like it did for me.

Hi and welcome to the forums .

Congratulations on solving this problem.

Unfortunately in a day or 2 this thread will be swallowed up by the void that is yesterdays news and no one will be able to learn from your expierience.

To avoid this problem I would suggest that you rewrite this as a nice little tutorial (perhaps a tad more generalized on the hardware) and post it in our tutorial section where there is little chance of it getting swallowed up.
